For ten years and counting, Fairfield Studios has been hosting the Shreveport House Concert Series.

These concerts have provided a unique music experience that features intimate performances from singer-songwriters. Just recently they received a nonprofit status, which will help them expand the series. With the change, they plan on doing a home grown series that will feature Louisiana artists. They also plan on broadcasting these concerts on Red River Radio, which will give additional exposure to the artists.

“Nonprofit status allows the Shreveport House Concerts Series to solicit and accept tax deductible donations,” said board member Russell Brabham. “Funding will allow us to implement post production editing of over 100 archived performances; work synergistically with Red River Radio for broadcasts of past and future concerts; expand our intern programs with LSUS and Centenary College; and upgrade designated video and post production equipment.”

Unlike other concerts in SBC, the room in Fairfield Studios allows for an interactive experience with the musician on stage. The dimly-lit space, which can hold up to 100 people, allows for dialogue between performers and the audience. Musicians will often tell stories in addition to playing songs, which gives the show a different feel than watching a concert in a bar or theater.

The audience also gets to meet the performer during an intermission, and enjoy food provided by A Stone’s Throw Café. Attendees are welcome to bring beverages of their choice to enjoy during the show.

Most of these concerts have a $20 suggested donation, and are held on Sundays at least once a month at 1508 Fairfield Ave. With the nonprofit change, the series is looking forward to adding additional dates to their schedule.

“Historically we have averaged approximately 12 shows per year,” said Brabham. “With the potential available from increased funding opportunities, we hope to expand to approximately 18 shows per year. Of particular emphasis is our plan to implement a ‘Home Grown’ series featuring local musicians.”

Upcoming concerts in the series include Laurie McClain, Pierce Pettis, Jack Williams, Brother Sun, and Roy Book Binder. If you are interested in being a sponsor or volunteering, visit shreveporthouseconcerts.org for more information.
