Thanks to their fans, local band Shayliff has taken first place in the first round of this year’s Hard Rock Rising, a global battle of the bands.

Now they move on to play a show at the Hard Rock in Dallas as part of the second round. The end goal is a chance to take an all expenses paid trip to Barcelona, Spain to play in the first ever Hard Rock Rising Music Festival.

Fans acted as the judges in the first round by voting for their favorite band online. Shayliff locked down the number one spot, guaranteeing them the spot in the live Battle of the Bands next month.

“I’m just excited that we got that far in the competition,” said modest front man Shay Bayliff. “We get to play with some great bands in Dallas. Hopefully we can make a few connections.”

The competition will whittle down bands from all over the world to compete in a battle royale of the bands for the glorious trip to Spain.

Shayliff has the chops and the sound to make it. Their album, “Why Don’t You Like Me?” is a full bodied hour of fun, and the follow up, “Red Leather Jacket” has made some noise across the city, both literally and metaphorically.

We’ll keep up with their progress in the competition and keep you posted.
