Shreveport: if you haven’t been to Rhino Coffee, you’re still probably hiding in your end-of-the-world fallout bunker.
More recently the shop has gained a reputation for concerts and events for all ages. The backyard patio has drawn such regional acts as Engine, Sirens, and Leopold and His Fiction, while also supporting artists from New Orleans, Austin, and beyond.
This local establishment opened its doors in August of 2012 and has been dishing out coffee ever since. The family-friendly space has a peaceful atmosphere and delicious food; the breakfast and lunch menus feature healthy options for South Highland locals. In fact, a lot of the regular patrons aren’t even coffee drinkers!
For their first anniversary celebration last year, vendors set up booths outside and inside while a throng of shoppers mingled throughout the day. Day Old Blues records brought a great rare selection of pre-loved vinyl and set up shop next to Toomasooba Design and Index Drums. Bands kept the tunes spinning in the backyard throughout the evening and into the night. And the best part about it all is, it was free.
Well another year has gone by, and these champs are looking to do it again. This time the stakes are higher and the pizza hotter. Vendors made up of creators and artists will be set up during the afternoon. Some of them are old favorites, but several new faces have hopped on as well, notably “Fig4” prints and “art by l e e a u x.”
As always, a great new line-up of bands is scheduled to play throughout the evening in the backyard. This includes returning local favorites Engine, Lauren Alexander, and more! Fresh anniversary cupcakes and ice cream will be provided in the birthday spirit. It’s bound to be a great time. Bring a friend, and come hang out.
