Maggie Keorner’s voice is brawny and capable of slaying the first 5 rows of fans in Bears when she reaches full cry. Her blue eyes glisten. Her smile is magnetic. Her hips and hands tell stories. The blues-influenced songs she writes are drenched in emotion.
Singing with Galactic has given Shreveport-raised singer – songwriter Koerner a bump. You can decide whether the big-voiced blonde has the talent to command festival stages on her own when she sings at Bears Fairfield on Wed, May 18, 10 pm.
Koerner (Loyola College Prep, LSUS) has just returned from writing, recording, being photographed and shopping in Los Angeles. Is she on the verge of another bump? No surprise if she is.
Says musician Russ Brabham, “In addition to her natural talent, I admire her artistic vision and the fact that she has followed her own muse. She has worked with some real serious players— Brady Blade, Stanton Moore and Galactic, Government Mule and Warren Haynes, The Revivalists. Many singer/songwriters in her position would be excused for adopting substantially from those types of influences. Maggie has watched and learned and elevated her craft without sacrificing her own artistic vision. The musical growth from 4 years ago is remarkable.”
Is she on the road to a breakthrough? You decide on Wednesday night at Bears at 10:00 p.m., which is conveniently both down the street from and after our LIVEPaint Art Battle event at Great Raft Brewing (6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.).
Cover is $10.
Get ready by listening to her excellent album Neutral Ground.
