What’s going on? Where? She did what? No matter what questions you may have about what is going on at Olive Street Thrift, there’s only one we have the answer to; does Olive Street Thrift have new ownership? Why, yes it does. Local Highlanders Derick Jones and Evan Stevens have recently purchased the thrift store nestled between Gilbert and Highland on Olive St.
“We would like to [continue with] the original idea of Olive Street Thrift – how it started out at first,” said Stevens. “When [the previous owners] first opened the doors, it was all about the rescues and donating. We hope to continue that mission but to expand into other charities as well.”
The new owners have already donated items to Providence House and to the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission.
“We plan on offering monetary donations to other local charities as soon as we get started,” said Stevens.
When asked what made them want to purchase the store, Jones said, “One of the biggest things that attracted me to this business was not because it was a retail store, [but because] it was about giving back to the community!”
“Highland is one of the only neighborhoods in Shreveport with a wide socio-economic status of individuals that live there,” continued Jones. “We want to cater to all of those, which is why we will carry high and low end things.”
Jones and Stevens are looking forward to this new adventure as business owners. The re-open date for Olive Street Thrift is tentatively set for Dec. 21, as they are awaiting all of the licenses to be filed.
