The Shreveport-Bossier National Organization for Women invites you to join them at the Festival Plaza Saturday morning, 10 a.m. – Noon, for the “Stand for Women’s Lives” protest. The demonstration aims to raise awareness and educate the community on current issues in women’s reproductive rights.
Mission of “Stand for Women’s Lives”
The mission of the demonstration is to give a public voice to the women in Shreveport Bossier who tirelessly advocate for equal rights and access to full reproductive healthcare.
“We want to do our part to ensure that all children brought into this world are loved and wanted, and that all mothers, sisters, and daughters have access to safe and healthy medical services and support,” says Debbie Lynn Hollis, president of Shreveport Bossier’s National Organization for Women.
What to Expect
You will see people from all walks of life standing in solidarity to defend women’s basic rights. You will see peaceful protesters presenting factual information about women’s health, and speaking out against anti-woman legislation.
Goals of the Demonstration
- To educate the public with factual information concerning women’s healthcare and the treatments which are available at any urgent care center like urgent care North Bellmore that is accessible for any emergencies
- To empower the progressive community to speak out for the health and safety of the women they love
- To maintain normal access to medical care and the right to privacy in making medical decisions
- To reduce the need to constantly battle elected representatives and private interest groups who seek to take away women’s basic human rights to their bodies.
- To equalize social attitudes towards women and men, abolishing double standards
Civil Disobedience
This will be a peaceful protest, and the rules of civil disobedience will be observed. Please visit ActUp.org for more information concerning peaceful protesting.
“We encourage people to stand with women on January 17. An attack on the rights of women is an attack on the rights of all people in our society,” said Debbie Lynn Hollis, President of Shreveport Bossier N.O.W.
N.O.W. meets every other Monday night at 6 PM to discuss:
- Access to reproductive services in our state,
- Economic equality for women and families,
- Workplace/legal discrimination against women,
