It’s a scene suitable for the National Geographic — bald eagles diving at prey, alligators silently gliding on the water and baby deer grazing in the forest. It’s strange but all of this happens every day only a few miles away from downtown Shreveport. We live in an incredibly versatile city where skyscrapers are merely minutes away from these amazing wildlife habitats. Nature is truly in our own backyards, but we only find it when we’re willing to explore.
We don’t have to drive very far to find something new and exciting. There are hidden gems all over the city! Unique nature trails, parks, restaurants, shops and events are all right under our noses. Developing an explorer state of mind will open new doors. A healthy sense of wonder and curiosity will almost always lead you to find the unexpected. Local exploration can be something as simple as driving down a street you’ve never been on or eating at that little hole in the wall restaurant you always pass by. Make a habit of keeping an eye out for things that are new or different.
Too often we find ourselves falling into a routine and becoming complacent; it comes, however, at an expense. What might we be missing? What interesting things are waiting around the corner to be experienced? Take a risk, and go off the beaten path. When we were children, our sense of adventure came to us as naturally as breathing. Most of us constantly craved new environments and situations where we could learn and play. Reclaim some of your youth and vitality! It’s time for us to remove the blinders and see what’s been hiding. Take the road less traveled. You may be surprised at what’s been there all along.
