Irene & the Sleepers is a staple of rock ’n roll in Northwest Louisiana. If you haven’t heard them yet, you’re missing out. These guys really know what they are going for and they do it well: blues-inspired pop rock ’n rhythm [my words, not theirs]. Several of the members have played in well known groups such as Tyler Read and Hydrogen Child. The group has recorded several albums and EPs since adopting their moniker and released each independently. They stand tall for the musical northwest LA region and maintain a level of recording quality unattempted by most other artists in their bracket.
And they’ve done it again. This time bigger than before. On Saturday, August 8, the band is celebrating the release of their new full-length LP, “Bring You Home.” Recorded at Echodog studios in Richmond, VA, by close friends over four days, this new collection features a mix of the delightfully new and nostalgically old. It’s full of those songs that haunt and avoid records for years, only to appear out of nowhere years later like an old friend. The band agreed on ten songs that made the final cut.
This is not the first vinyl release for the Sleepers. They were also included on BOULEVARD BLUES, a Day Old Blues Records 10” vinyl compilation last year. “Bring You Home” is special, though. It is the first full-length vinyl album to be released under the Day Old Blues Records banner. Hopefully you agree that it’s a strong beginning to a new chapter in our regional music community.
Come celebrate the release this Saturday at Strange Brew. Supporting the night are other local artists SHAYLIFF and THE WALL CHARGERS. Be sure to RSVP here.
