We are about to embark on one of the busiest weekends Shreveport has to offer. To guide you through what could be a huge weekend, we present to you the Heliopolis Weekend Warrior schedule for Nov. 14-15 featuring The Highland Jazz & Blues Festival – a selection of the events you can attend in a way you can actually make work, if you stick to it.

FRIDAY

20,000 Days on Earth, Drafthouse Films

5:00p – After work, head to the Marlene Yu and Julie Glass Openings at artspace. ($10 cover)

6:30p – Catch the 6:30 tour of Norton at Night: The Art of Beer at the Norton Art Gallery ($20).

7:30p – Head back downtown to the Robinson Film Center to catch the tail end of the record party for a special limited engagement screening of the documentary “20,000 Days on Earth” and the record party. The film starts at 8:30p and the party starts at 6:30 if you choose to skip Norton at Night. (FREE record party plus the cost of your movie ticket)

10:15p – After you’re done with the film screening, hit up Bears on Fairfield for Marcel P. Black and Soul Society (which starts at 9pm) if you’re not too tired, loser. ($5 cover)

SATURDAY

8:00a – Shop at the Shreveport Farmers’ Market and have breakfast. (FREE, minus cost of groceries)

10:00a – If you’re rearing a child or know someone who is, hop over to the Red River District to check out the grand opening of Hippie Baby where there will be giveaways (FREE, unless you buy baby stuff)

11:00a – Attend the Olive Street Thrift & Vintage Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. (FREE, but you’ll need a really, really ugly sweater.)

12:00pHighland Jazz and Blues Festival with headliner Kermit Ruffins begins, but we might encourage you artists to first…

1:00p – Attend the Artist One Stop: Exploring Art Opportunities to learn how to market and sell your art. (FREE for BAC members, memberships are $25)

3:00p – Hop over to the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival (starts at 12pm) by riding your bike or taking a shuttle from Mall St. Vincent. Plan on a light snack to tide you over for dinner. (FREE music and shuttle from St Vincent, expect to spend a little on food and perhaps a trinket from a vendor)

6:00p – Strut over to the Official Highland Jazz and Blues Festival Afterparty with Buddy Flett at Twisted Root and grab dinner OR head home to dress up for a night out…  (FREE event, expect to buy dinner, maybe drinks)

9:00p – Catch the beginning of Be You! Open Mic/Jam at Bayou Some Junque Cafe downtown. Runs until 1am. (FREE, bring an instrument or vocal talent)

10:30p – Finish strong and head to the Big Deal Burlesque show with Live Music from the Cons & Prose at Bears on Fairfield ($10 cover, bring money for drinks)

Honorable Mention

The honorable mention this weekend goes to the Shreveport Opera performance of La Traviata at the Riverview Theater downtown at 7:30. ($15-$90)
