I wouldn’t call myself a foodie, but I’ve eaten at my fair share of local favorites.

Just like our city’s wide variety of fare, our food trucks are just as diverse. Shrimp tacos, baked treats, and gourmet dogs await, and that’s just the beginning.

As far as food trucks go, there are so many new ones that pop up it’s hard to keep tabs on them all. Here’s a look at a few I’ve rounded up, but stay alert – there are always new ones on the rise.

Lilah’s Bakery
Known for their king cakes and other baked treats, Lilah’s Bakery serves up grilled sandwiches with a twist. My favorite is the Yankee Doodle Melt (mac & cheese, American cheese, Applewood smoked bacon and sliced apples on Texas toast). I like to top it off with a cupcake, and their flavors change so give Lilah’s a shout to hear their daily menu.

Some Like It Hot
The grilled turkey, cheddar and jalapeño sandwich from Some Like It Hot is so appetizing, I have actually eaten two in one sitting. Most people order the stuffed burgers, but I know a good melt when I taste it. The yellow truck also carries a variety of hot dogs (Kraut, BBQ, BLT, and more).

Grill of the Dead
Grill of the Dead is one of Shreveport’s newest trucks on the scene, specializing in zombie-themed burgers. There are also melts, sandwiches, and their “Wings of Mass Destruction.” I have yet to try Grill of the Dead, but I hear it’s a true treat with zombie movies playing; over the top meat cleavers hang on the walls, and a range of burgers that are to die for. Literally.

River City Seafood
A true taste of Louisiana, River City Seafood has been operating since December 2012. Their menu consists of shrimp, catfish and chicken baskets as well as poboys. During the right season, the truck sells specialties such as gumbo, étouffée and jambalaya. All of their seafood is gulf caught or Louisiana farm fed. Perfect for a summer night. Taqueria La Michoacana I love authentic Mexican food. One of Michoacana’s signature dishes is their traditional style tacos stuffed with carne asada, chicken, al pastor pork, sausage, ground beef, or vegetables. Tacos are $2.25 each and made with corn tortillas. If you’re feeling up to it, lengua (beef tongue) is always on the menu, and it’s pretty tasty. If the truck is serving quesadillas, you have to try one – they’re simply delicious.

The Missing Link This is what gourmet looks like: a chorizo con huevos hot dog topped with a fried egg, plus a batch of rosemary fries. The Missing Link prides themselves on coming up with fascinating, mouthwatering dogs – such as the bacon cheddar dog, the Cajun dog with remoulade sauce, and the beer brat. Another new truck on the scene, I haven’t had the chance to try but I’ve heard nothing but fantastic things.

Jester’s Mobile Food Cart If you’re in the mood for a tamale, Jester’s is the place to go. Stuffed with crawfish, shrimp, pork tenderloin, beef or chicken, the tamales are always piping hot. Italian sausage hot dogs can also be found, as well as the muffaletta panini. Room for dessert? The Bourbon Pecan Pie with ice cream (if available) is a treat. Also available: Italian sodas.
