Local musician Jody K has a new self-titled release coming out of Foxtrot Productions & Studios.

The album was recorded over the past year with an impressive list of Shreveport and Austin musicians, including Brady Blade, Jason Coffield, and Jesse Aycock to name a few. The production on the album is larger than most local albums; after looking at the inside sleeve, there were close to 20 different musicians listed, playing a variety of instruments. Some of the songs included brass and string arrangements.

“We pulled in everything for this,” said Co-Producer and bassist Shawn Stroope. “On this album there can be three guitar players on a song. Each would be a different player that we would use for different flavors. Sometimes there would be a dozen tracks of strings on a song.”

With the wide variety of instruments came a variety of styles of music on the album.

Some of the songs have a soulful rock n’ roll vibe, while others are country ballads. Some of the songs sound a lot bigger than others depending on how many musicians and singers contributed on the track. The songs can vary, too, because they have been written over a long period of time.

“He has been writing his whole life,” explained Stroope. “This album is kind of like a greatest hits, because some of these songs are a decade or two old at least. This is kind of the first volume of what he wants to do. Every record is going to kind of be a compilation.”

Foxtrot Studios plans on working on the next volume of these songs relatively soon. On the current album there’s at least one track that each music listener can appreciate.

The album artwork was also done at Foxtrot, with the picture of Jody taken by Stroope on the roof of the space.

For those interested in picking up a copy of the album, there will be a digital release available soon on iTunes, as well as physical copies at Day Old Blues Records.
