Even though the doors didn’t open until 10 a.m. today, vinyl collectors lined up two hours in advance to lay claim to exclusive new records.
Record Store Day (RSD) started nation-wide in 2007 as a way to celebrate and support independently owned record stores, such as Shreveport’s Day Old Blues. Artists put out RSD exclusives in limited quantities, making the albums available on this day irresistible for the loyal vinyl enthusiast. Day Old Blues owner James “Rex” Gilcrease orders as many of these exclusives as he can, allowing patrons to request orders months in advance of Record Store Day.
The caveat is that these records are “first come first served,” so it doesn’t matter if you requested the exclusive record or not – you need to get there first!
Those who lined up early to shop the Record Store Day exclusives, newly released vinyl, and “pre-loved” vintage records were stopped on their way out to talk about their purchases and “holy grail” records.
With live music from a variety of local bands and food from Rib Tip Express kicking off at noon, Record Store Day at Day Old Blues is an annual tradition that should not be missed!
