“[I thought] documentaries on the history of Shreveport might draw a couple of hundred people” to a showing, said Cheryl White to the audience in the Strand Theater on January 28th, during the debut of editions 5 – 8 of the Shape of Shreveport series. That was the opinion of White, an LSU history teacher and author, when she first joined the team to help narrate the series.

She happily admitted that was an error when she addressed the second sold-out night of Shape of Shreveport viewings. The first four films premiered last June.

The crowd was ebullient. As you’ll see from the photo essay, the age spread seemed even. The audience seemed to some onlookers the sort of people who could help change Shreveport, if only they would.

The Broyles plan to make 12 more films, for a total of 20 stories. If you missed the premiere of the new episodes, a screening is in the works at the Robinson Film Center and a DVD will follow in the coming months. Episodes 1-4 are currently on sale at Kings Hardware on Line Avenue.
