Tough but witty artist Amanda Roe has a batch of some 40 fresh paintings hanging at artspace Shreveport in an exhibit that opens Thursday, January 14th, at 5:30 p.m..

She hovers above the gritty world of youthful imagery, painting dark, sarcastic self portraits.

Roe is a canny collector of the memes of youth – some of her connectedness perhaps deriving from her day job as art teacher at the Louisiana School for  the Math, Science, and Arts.

Given her sense of what’s cool and her growth in painterly fluency over the past 2 years Ms Roe would have to be classified as a collectible artist whose trajectory is likely to lead up and away from here.

Her prices, she says, “are reasonable because I want people to have my work in their homes.” Her media? “Latex paint, paint pens, oil pastels on wood panels. That makes them durable.”
Roe is based in Natchitoches but is a frequent vendor of canvasses in Shreveport at events such as the Texas Ave Makers Fair, SRAC shows and at The Agora Borealis, 412 Lake St.
