The time has come. Our favorite film and photograph exhibit opens its doors again. In an unexpected sudden turn of fortune, the minds at minicine? have found a traveling cinematic experience worth hosting. As you can imagine, it’s already looking awesome. This go-around, we will be experiencing the art and photographs of Bill Daniel; a regional enthusiast who travels abroad sharing candid photos of punk rock and DIY communities. Several of his collections feature Shreveport folks.
Daniel has documented minicine? shows, events at Dalzell House, and, last spring, the construction of the Airlift Music Village at Calanthean Canyon. Some of these are part of the normal traveling exhibit, but he is printing even more for this particular stop on his tour.
Bill isn’t coming alone, though. Another group of traveling film enthusiasts will be sharing their works as well. They are moving independently of Daniel, making the evening even more unlikely and special. Let’s give a big Shreveport welcome to The New England Home Movie Tour; featuring handmade and homemade poetic film works from the northeast that celebrate the tactility and intimacy of celluloid-based moving images. This part of the show will be more visual, but still share the documentary spirit.
So come out on a Tuesday. It won’t take long. Besides, it will wash through you like cold water. Come park downtown and walk. See the skyline, breathe the air and come look at some captured moments through a punk rock lens. Hear the stranger speaking. Sit beside him and listen to his story.
And then go to Bear’s for Sutto Record’s Tribute night.
WHEN: Tuesday, January 20, 7p
WHERE: 846 Texas Avenue
DIRECTIONS: If you don’t know how to get to minicine?: go downtown on Common Street (Line Avenue). Turn left at Texas Ave. before you get to the big Methodist church. Look for it on your right. It’s across the way from the big glowing dog. Where the Maker’s Fair happens.
