Shreve Memorial Library will bring dozens of local authors together for its annual Ark-La-Miss-Tex Author Faire. On June 7, 2014 from 10:00AM-300PM, the Hamilton/South Caddo Branch Library (2111 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop) will feature 35 writers from the region with adult and children’s books on hand for perusal and purchase. In addition, authors will speak to the forum, Literary Elements: Ingredients for Success, which examines common elements to include plot, setting, character, theme, mood, structure, narrative mode (especially point of view), tone, voice, language, subtext, and conflict.
“The forum provides an opportunity for writers and readers alike to more fully understand the writing process. Not only does this make for better writing but it helps instill an appreciation in the readers for the considerable effort it takes to craft a readable product,” says Debra Kavanaugh, Adult Education Coordinator for Shreve Memorial Library. “The event is so lively and a lot of fun!” The Ark-La-Miss-Tex Author Faire serves as one of the kick-off events for the library’s Summer Reading Program, a yearly event featuring selected works, programming and incentives for adults, teens, children and families.
This year’s authors include: Clementine Cooper, Willetta Davis, Frank Boston, Gypsy Damaris Boston, Edward Hancock II, Carlos Colón, Liz Tally, Jim McLain, Norma L. Whitaker, Patty Wiseman, Harry E. Gilleland, Jr., Taishieka Davis, Cecelia Simon, Elaine Marze, Ava Montgomery, Shelia Goss, Melvin Lars, Winnie Griggs, Patti Parker, Alyssia Kirkhart, K.M. Jackson, Matthew Pizzolato, Dr. Scott R.
