Shreveport/Bossier hasn’t quite reached “beer town” status, but we are definitely headed in the right direction. We have two breweries to call our own – Great Raft Brewing and Red River Brewing Company – and are starting to see more and more craft beer brands enter the market. With all of this buzz about beer, many of you may be wondering where you can buy some of these beers around town. You can’t just walk into any grocery store, bar or convenience store and pick up the area’s best beer offerings. So, here’s a look at where you can expect to find a solid craft beer selection, whether you want to sit and enjoy a pint or buy beer to-go.

On-Premise – Bars and Restaurants

Rotolo’s Pizzeria – With 31 beers on tap, Rotolo’s boasts the area’s largest draft beer selection. Not all of the taps are dedicated to craft, but it is close with an impressive 75 percent. If you want a domestic brew such as Bud Light or Michelob Ultra, you’ll have to order it in a bottle.

Twisted Root Burger – This new burger joint has 12 craft beers on tap + an impressive list of eight craft offerings in cans and bottles. Happy Hour is 4-7 p.m. Mon. – Sat. and includes $1 off all draft beers.

Frank’s – Frank’s has 8 tap handles with 5 or 6 solid craft beer offerings on at any given time. Happy Hour is from 3-6 p.m. and includes half-price domestics, and $1 off all draft and other bottles.

Wine Country Bistro – There isn’t any beer on draft, but you will always find a solid selection of craft beer in bottles and cans. Pro tip: Ask for a wine glass. The staff will be happy to oblige and the nice Reidel glassware will enhance your beer drinking experience.

Real Pickle – If you know your beer, you can always find something to enjoy from the expansive list of offerings at this local restaurant. They rotate a few beers on draft, but most of the selection is available in bottles or cans.

Marilynn’s Place – This quaint eating spot features all things Louisiana, from the food to the beer. They have a few domestics available, but all other options are brewed in Louisiana (Abita, Covington, Tin Roof, NOLA).

Twine – This local spot isn’t just slingin’ tea and wine. They have a pretty impressive craft beer line up, as well. With half off all beers on Tuesdays from 4 – 7 p.m., it’s worth stopping in for a bite and a few brews on the patio.

Honorable Mention:  What’s on Tap I and II, Strange Brew, Noble Savage, Daq’s, Brass Monkey

You may be saying, “Lindsay, almost all of these are Shreveport locations. Where’s the love for Bossier?” To be fair, I do most of my drinking on the Shreveport side of the river. I’ve ventured, however, over to Bossier City in search of craft beer. Daq’s, What’s on Tap II, BWW and Hooters feature a handful of craft options, as well.

Off-premise – Grocery Stores / Etc.

Brewniverse – We finally have our very own beer-centric store. This place not only has one of the best beer selections in town, they also sell homebrew supplies. There are multiple tables and shelves dedicated to singles, so you can mix and match your selections.

Brookshire’s on Line Ave. – This grocery store has a solid craft selection compared to most local grocery stores. You can make your own 6-pack if you want to try a variety of styles. They sell bombers of special releases and a broad selection of craft and Louisiana beers.

Tony’s Beverages – Tony’s has shown that they aren’t just a liquor store, with a solid commitment to carrying a variety of craft brews and also hosting beer education events. Recently they have held tasting seminars, homebrew events, glassware education and more.

Wine Country Bottle Shop – Don’t let the name fool you. This shop has more than just wine. At their Twelve Oaks location, they have a nice selection of beer from all over the world.

The Cellar Fine Wine and Spirits – With three locations (Airline and Benton Rd. in Bossier, and one in Benton), this is your best bet for picking up craft beer around Bossier.

Cuban Liquor and Wine – Cuban is known for its high-end wines, cheese, snacks and spirits. The beer selection there is impressive, as well. The entire back wall of the store is filled with shelves of beer. Keep an eye on their events, as they often host beer tastings in the store.

If your favorite watering hole or beer store isn’t on this list, don’t fret. The area is just now starting to see an increase in demand for craft beer. If you want your favorite bar or store to carry your favorite new craft beer, be sure to ask for it by name. If you don’t ask, how will they know?
