Shreveport Little Theatre is bringing the soulful sounds of Memphis the Musical to the SBC as their summer musical. This Tony Award- winning musical, including 2010’s Best Musical, will have you wishing you brought your dancing shoes along with your ticket! The show is based on the book of the same name by Joe DiPietro and music by David Bryan (a founding member of Bon Jovi), with both the book and original score amongst Memphis‘s Tony Award wins.

Shreveport native Laura Beeman Nugent returns to direct this exciting musical with musical direction by local Adam Philley. Both of whom have worked on several productions for SLT including last year’s successful Thoroughly Modern Millie. Moreover, Los Angeles native Roshanda Spears is offering her talent for choreography.

The story of Memphis is loosely based on actual events of a time when it was not alright to play certain music on the airwaves. A white DJ takes the risk and plays some of the taboo music around the same time he meets an aspiring black club singer. As the tale unfolds about forbidden love and changing the world, the audience is moved with inspirations of unity, equality, and overcoming adversity. The musical gives an anecdote about love and hope that the world could use a reminder of right now – along with entertaining music!

Most of the diverse cast is from Shreveport with a few from Natchitoches, Louisiana and Longview, Texas. Leading cast includes Brady Hodgson as Huey Calhoun and Aryelle Edmonds as Felicia Farrell.

The show opens July 12th and runs through July 29, 2018 so hurry up and get your tickets now!
