In its 34th year, ArtBreak is a massive energy center for kids and parents. See it and hear it at the Shreveport Convention Center, Monday, April 23 to Sunday, April 29.

It remains the largest showcase of student art programs in the South, says Pam Atchison.

Some of the newest activities for Caddo Parish students in ArtBreak 2018:

  • Straight Up Abilities, a national performance, and education group for children and adults with intellectual or physical disabilities.
  • Peter and the Wolf 2nd Grade Reading Adventure will feature the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra’s performance of “Peter and the Wolf.”
  • Film Prize Jr. is inviting students ages 14-18 from the entire state to make a 3-10 minute film to participate in the competition. Cash prizes total $7,000. Screenings will be held during ArtBreak Friday 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • ArtBreak’s Talent Show opens Friday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Shreveport Convention Center.

“50 hands-on, make-and-take activities add art to science, technology, engineering, and math programs in innovative ways to stimulate whole-brain thinking in the 3rd Grade Hands-On STEAM Activities. Those activities are open throughout the week for 2nd and 3rd graders and – during the weekend – for families.

At the Shreveport Convention Center doors open to the public Friday at 5 p.m. The 22nd annual KTAL-6 ArtBreak’s Got Talent Show starts at 6:30 p.m. ArtBreak closes at 9:30 p.m. On Saturday, ArtBreak runs from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6:00 p.m.

“2018 is a brand new ArtBreak,” says Atchison, “that invites all students in public, charter, private, Home School Associations and Talented Arts Programs throughout Caddo Parish and surrounding Northwest Louisiana Parishes to bring their parents and come out and have fun.”

Hilton garage parking is free on the weekend, says John Lomax. The street lot at the corner of Caddo and Spring St is free all week, he said.
