In our evolving media landscape, it has been increasingly popular to take video-on demand services like Netflix and Hulu one step further and completely sever from cable television, known as cord-cutting. Cord-cutters have had access to many emerging and repackaged ala carte services – Hulu Live, Sling TV, DirecTV Now, and Vue, but now Shreveporter residents have access to the new offering of YoutubeTV in its most recent rollout to 34 new markets in addition to the original 49.
Though many people are already using a live television service, what is notable is Shreveport’s inclusion in a relatively limited expansion by the Google owned service. With Shreveport being a nearly monopolized area, any shakeup that gives citizens more choice is a welcome sight. You will still need to use either Comcast or AT&T as an internet provider, but being the 120th largest city and one of 83 receiving access to YoutubeTV is still worth noting.
Personally, my family have been cord-cutters for the past five years using Netflix and currently Hulu Live (for both their catalog and live sports channels). I could see replacing Hulu Live with YoutubeTV due to the limitless DVR, similar channels that we use, and better integration with Google’s own Chromecast. Again, more options are always welcome.
