Can summer cosmopolitanism in Shreveport be found at Pierremont Mall?
For several decades the summer dance program by Carol Anglin’s Dancenter, Pierremont Mall on Line Avenue was jazzed by guest choreographers from Chicago, such as Jon Lehrer, and NYC, such as Raymond del Barrio. When Anglin left Shreveport her studio became the (Marie) Arts Dance Center.
Born and raised in Shreveport (Caddo Magnet High School), Marie Arts returned to Shreveport after building a career in dance in Colorado and becoming the successful creator of the Del Mar Dance Studio in San Diego.
Guest choreographers continue to visit the Pierremont Mall studio under Marie Arts. This week she continued the Anglin tradition of flying teachers cross-country to Shreveport. Dance students worked under San Diego-based choreographer Niara.
Later in the week, a week devoted to hip-hop and urban dance, Los Angeles-based choreographer Kevin Belisario will direct the students.
Registration remains open for late-arriving students, says Arts.
