Guitarist-singer-composer Steve Howe performed the precise guitar lines he created for the Yes albums in a 3-hour show at the Strand Theater, Shreveport, on Saturday, February 19th.
As a long-time Yes listener I must say that the evening was highly musical and evocative of the dreamscapes created by the group in their albums. Young American singer Jon Davison sang the Jon Anderson melodies with grace and care for the high notes.
Missed was the late bassist Chris Squire, who recently succumbed to cancer. While Billy Sherwood played the Squire-composed bass lines with aplomb, the clarity and punch of the Squire sound, usually played on a Rickenbacker (Sherwood played Spectors, FWIW), was missing.
Howe said ML Fontenot, “Played his butt off.” The mix and overall sound quality in the Strand seemed excellent from the first balcony. The crowd, heavy on musicians if I may say so, seemed to heartily appreciate the performance.
