When we have a chance to have some input into things that have such a huge impact on our daily lives, we must take advantage, such as with the recent push for transparent public transportation.

Public transit, walking, and biking are the way of the future. Upcoming generations are increasingly preferring alternatives to the personal automobile. We see the positive benefits, understand the problems, and ask for changes of the current agenda. We have an opportunity to have an impact right here in Shreveport. I see great opportunities to improve on our current systems, and transform them into viable alternative transportation options.

I’d like to ask all of you to reach out and express your opinions and desires whenever possible, right now especially! Sportran is hosting an Open House 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist church downtown. Go, and tell them what they need to do in order to increase ridership. Check out this event flyer for more details.

For those that don’t know, there is an organization that handles transportation planning for this region – the Northwest Louisiana Council of Government. Take some time to review and fill out the survey.

It’s easy to complain about things, I know. But this is a good opportunity to have a voice. It’s all we have, and I urge you to take advantage of it.
