See the Confederate monument sarcophagus at the Caddo Parish Courthouse

From Thursday, July 23 to Friday, June 24, 2020, a sarcophagus was constructed for the Confederate monument in front of the Caddo Parish Courthouse until plans are solidified for its removal and relocation.

The structure was commissioned by the Caddo Parish Commission two weeks ago. Construction had been intended to be started Friday, July 17, but additional time for structural design was needed.

Some have said that the box is to protect the monument, but the truth is that, at least practically speaking, it will be more about beginning the process of re-imagining the space without the monument. It was reported that local government flags would be painted on the structure, but it kind of looks nice as it is, or maybe it could provide a canvas for something more unifying and valuable culturally than a flag.
